Back on the big screen: Orlando Bloom returns to theatres in October in the action-adventure, The Three Musketeers

Lights, action, tights and lots of fights. The trailer for The Three Musketeers, starring Orlando Bloom, just hit the internet this weekend and its loaded with swashbuckling sequences.

The action-adventure co-stars Ray Stevenson, Oscar winner Christoph Waltz and Milla Jovovich.

It centres on the hot-headed young D'Artagnan and his fellow, but now down on their luck Musketeers, who must re-unite and defeat a beautiful double agent and her villainous employer from seizing the French throne and engulfing Europe in war.

Action-packed: Set in the 17th century, the movie is full of swashbuckling and fighting sequences

D'Artagnan is played by Logan Wade Lerman, an American newcomer ,who has previously had small parts in 3:10 to Yuma and the thriller The Number 23.

Christoph Waltz, Milla Jovovich and Orlando Bloom play the villains.

Set in the 17th century, the movie is the latest retelling of the Three Musketeers book and television series.

International affair: The movie features cast members from several countries including Christoph Waltz, a native of Vienna, Austria

Shot in 3D, this big-budget version is an international affair, and is expected to have worldwide appeal.

It was shot in Germany and helmed by Britain's Paul W.S. Anderson, the director behind the Resident Evil and Death Race franchises.

Given Anderson's past, it's no surprise that The Three Musketeers trailer is loaded with non-stop action.

Anderson is married to model-turned-actress Milla Jovovich, who recently revealed this movie is nothing like earlier versions of the story.

In an interview with film website Collider.com, Milla said: 'It’s just going to look amazing, doing stunt training in those corsets and skirts – which adds a whole new dimension to stunt work which I’ve done before!'

She added: 'We’re breaking new ground. I don’t think we’ve ever seen a woman in a corset doing this kind of high-wire work before. It could be interesting.
'It’s not your parents’ Three Musketeers.'

The movie opens across the US and UK on October 14th.
